Artwork & Intellectual Property Policy

DB3D PRINTING CUSTOMER ARTWORK POLICY

Artwork & Intellectual Property Policy

We love helping customers create something personal. When you provide artwork, files, logos, characters, or other creative material, we also need to make sure DB3D Printing has a reasonable basis to reproduce it.

Your Responsibility When You Submit Artwork

By submitting artwork or other creative material to DB3D Printing, you represent that you own the rights needed for the requested use or have permission from a person or organization authorized to grant those rights.

If we request proof, you must provide the files or documentation needed to support that authorization before we accept or produce the order.

What Proof May Include

  • Documentation showing that you created and own the submitted original artwork.
  • Written permission or a license from the copyright or trademark owner.
  • A license from an authorized licensor that clearly covers the material and the type of reproduction requested.
  • A contract, purchase record, or license terms that identify the work and the commercial reproduction rights being granted.
  • Reliable documentation establishing that the submitted material is in the public domain or otherwise available for the requested use.

A receipt showing that you purchased or downloaded a file does not, by itself, establish that you received the necessary intellectual-property rights.

Copyrighted Characters, Logos, Brands & Other Protected Material

Artwork featuring protected characters, logos, team marks, company branding, entertainment properties, or other copyrighted or trademarked material may require authorization from the underlying rights holder or an authorized licensor.

Finding an image online, downloading an STL, purchasing a file, or receiving permission from the person who created that particular file does not automatically establish permission to reproduce any underlying protected property contained in it.

This applies even when a file is advertised as including “commercial use” rights. A designer or seller can only license rights that they own or are authorized to license.

INSPIRATION & REFERENCE PHOTOS

Reference Images Provide Direction—not Permission to Copy

You may submit a photograph or example to help communicate the general style, subject, theme, layout, or overall feeling you would like for your project. Reference images are used only as creative direction and do not authorize DB3D Printing to copy the artwork shown.

DB3D Printing will not trace, duplicate, or closely recreate another artist’s or business’s design. When a reference image contains artwork that you do not own or have permission to reproduce, we will create a new and independently developed design based only on the general direction you provide. The finished design may differ substantially from the reference image.

Reference photos containing protected characters, logos, trademarks, branded elements, or other recognizable intellectual property may not be reproduced without satisfactory permission or licensing documentation.

If you want a specific design reproduced exactly, you must provide the original artwork and documentation showing that you own it or have permission to use it. DB3D Printing may decline any request that cannot be completed with sufficient originality or appropriate authorization.

ABOUT THIRD-PARTY “COMMERCIAL USE” LICENSES

Commercial Use Does Not Automatically Cover Underlying IP

If an independent designer creates a model or image based on someone else’s protected character, logo, brand, or other intellectual property, that designer’s commercial-use license is not sufficient for DB3D Printing unless the documentation also establishes that the designer or seller is authorized by the underlying rights holder to grant the required rights.

For example, a commercial license to an independently created character model does not automatically show that the designer had authority to license the underlying character property.

If the necessary chain of authorization cannot be demonstrated, DB3D Printing may decline the request.

You Must Send the Documentation

When proof is required, the customer must send DB3D Printing the relevant files, licenses, permissions, purchase records, or other documentation. Please make sure the documentation identifies the artwork or property involved and shows who is granting the rights.

DB3D Printing will not search for the copyright or trademark owner, locate a license for you, contact a designer or rights holder on your behalf, or determine whether a third party had authority to grant rights that are not shown in the documentation you provide.

DB3D Printing May Decline a Request

DB3D Printing may decline or cancel a custom request when required documentation is missing, unclear, inconsistent, cannot reasonably be verified from the materials provided, or otherwise does not give us a reasonable basis to proceed.

Providing documentation does not guarantee acceptance. We reserve the right to decline a project when we are not comfortable reproducing the submitted material.

Customer Acknowledgement

By submitting customer-provided artwork for a DB3D Printing order, you confirm that the information you provide is accurate and that you have the rights or authorization necessary for the requested use.

This policy describes DB3D Printing’s order-acceptance requirements. It is not legal advice and does not determine the legal status of any particular work, license, or use.
